Cathedral Archery Demonstration
High Elm Archers were asked to put on an Archery demonstration at the Anglican Cathedral in Liverpool on Saturday 20th September 2008. We were to be part of the ‘Prince Caspian Fun Day’, a Narnia themed family fun day in which families could take part in activities, and watch the various demonstrations.
The Archery demonstrations proved to be most popular, a great deal of interest was particularly generated by Tracy & Ian’s Medieval outfits. The outfits were hand made by themselves (including the chain mail, which took many years to make), and true in authenticity for the medieval time period.
Jack started the demonstration with his Compound bow, followed by Eric, and Rob using Recurve bows. George then demonstrated the Hungarian Magyar bow. Desna, Michael, and Tom showed off their traditional British Longbows to great effect. Although heavily burdened, and sweltering under their medieval dress Tracy, and Ian completed the Archery demonstrations by shooting their Longbows. The demonstrations narrated by George, and Michael, gave the audience a look at Archery through the ages, starting with the high tech compound bow then going back to medieval times with the traditional Longbow.
By giving the demonstration, High Elm Archers have also created history by being the first Archers to shoot in the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, and it was Jack Grogan who shot the first arrow. Now there’s a bit of history worth knowing.
